General Motors testing the first pre-production Chevrolet Volt prototypes

Here on the website we generally post high performance cars, parts, news, stories, videos, photos and everything that goes in that category. But sometimes we are more interested in those future cars, being hybrid, hydrogen powered (we know it’s still a hybrid, but a whole different ball game) and the electric kind. Today we will talk about the electric cars, or to be exact the electric car coming from America’s biggest car manufacturer. After being stuck in the crisis for some time, General Motors has turned it’s attention to more greener cars. Somewhat of a term coming from the US government, and the general public for receiving that enormous federal funding.

The car we are talking about here is the Chevy Volt, a small electric powered car that rises lot’s of attention from it’s revealing at the Detroit Auto Show. After a few months of testing, getting the information coming from the mule cars, thousands of miles covered, they came to the point when they can produce a pre-production Chevrolet Volt prototype.

And they have done in ahead of schedule! The first drive of the pre-production prototype was done at the Technical Center campus in Warren, Michigan. As the chief engineer for the Volt cars says “We’re producing a few Volts per week now, but we’ll quickly ramp up to 10 per week and will have approximately 80 pre-production vehicles built by October.” it shouldn’t be that long, before we see the first production models of this green electric car on the streets.

Quite a breakthrough from those gas guzzling 5.0L engines with 150HP who don’t go nowhere?
