Getting extreme with BMW isn’t such a problem. They have made street racing cars for decades, getting more and more power, better suspension, better handling, better performance and everything a sports car needs. While the speculation for the new BMW’s extreme M3 were spread around, names like the CSL, GT or GT4 Street were mentioned. You can scarp all that, because the full name of this new beast in BMW’s garage is called the BMW M3 GTS. And yes, this is the most hardcore BMW ever! That should mean something.
The new BMW M3 GTS is featured with a lively orange paintjob, which we find very interesting, getting to know that Halloween was just a few days ago. Well, not to joke around, the color really fits the car. Getting to the details of the car, you will find 19-inch competition alloys, which are coated with 225/35 rubber up front and 285/30 in the rear. Looking at the photos, you can really tell that the car sits quite well on the ground, which besides aesthetic points, will surely bring better handling. Those big wheels are housing six-piston calipers in the front and four in the rear. Behind them you can see the yellow springs and an adjustable suspension mounted on the car there. We didn’t get much about the power of this car from the BMW’s ///M department, so you will have to wait for that. But we sure know that this car will have plenty of power delivered from it’s 4.4L V8 engine, driven through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox powering the rear wheels.
Aerodynamics is improved by a large front spoiler, bringing the car firmly to the ground and giving better downforce. The rear end is topped over by another spoiler, doing the same work on the rear, as the front does in it’s part. The interior is the source of dreams for any road racer, or any petrolhead out there. There is no stereo, no air conditioning, no usuall everyday electronics which may improve the usage of an ordinary road car, but here they are only irrelevant. You sit in contoured racing seats, giving firm hold of your body when you are taking this car through those tight curves. The place usually holding the air condition controls, now features an electric cut off switch and a fire extinguisher switch needed for track use. Did we forget to mention that you don’t get a navigation unit in the car? Well, you don’t. But you get mounting points for a roll cage, a place to mount the six-point harnesses and a Macrolon rear windscreen to replace the stock glass.
The BMW M3 GTS gets the scale to only 1490 kg (3285 lbs), with all the upgrades mentioned earlier it really gets the weight down in this case. Remember that’s about 419 lbs less than the stock M3 coupe, which has 3704 lbs curb weight. With the price of 115,000 euros (about $170k) before taxes, this won’t be a car that you will see everyday. Getting into some supercar price range, it should really prove it’s worth on the track and on the street if it’s going to have positive sales. The first deliveries are scheduled for next May, they are starting in Germany so be sure to check out your options if you are looking to get this car.
