McLaren MP4-12C Huge Photo gallery! And some videos
We’re lazy here sometimes, so we didn’t get to cover all the hype preceding the launch of the McLaren MP4-12C these days. Somehow we believe that all this hype is interesting in the range of watching the grass grow. But when more photos and videos came out, we were very much interested. Then when McLaren did their official spring time revealing at their HQ at Woking (that’s in England for those of you who don’t know), we pretty much made sure to bring you all of the photos and details that are really interesting.
The huuuuugely popular MP4-12C name is something that rests on the marketing departments shoulders, but the car itself looks brilliant. The new supercar from McLaren is powered by a mid-engined 3.8 liter V8, developed in-house by McLaren. Thanks to the boost developed by twin turbos, it develops 600-horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Really not bad for something that’s named MP4-12C don’t you think?
For the performance geeks out there, the 100km/h (62mph) will be reached in less than 3,0 seconds and 200 km/h (124mph) in under 10 seconds while the straight line racers will appreciate the quarter mile in around 11 seconds and the car will be reaching a top speed of 200mph or 322km/h.
Even though the pricing wasn’t announced yet and it will arrive probably at the end of this year, the McLaren guys are talking about £125,000-175,000 for the car when it becomes available. Somewhat cheaper than the Lexus LFA-400 don’t you think? With the competitors ranging from the Ferrari Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and the range of Porsche 911 cars, we can certainly hope to see some tests with these cars then.
The McLaren engineers also say “Reducing weight is an obsession at McLaren … Recent developments have lowered the MonoCell’s [the one-piece moulded carbon-fibre chassis] weight further to below 80 kg, whilst continued lightweight engineering supports McLaren Automotive’s plans to launch the 12C at a lighter dry weight than any competitor at around 1,300 kg [2,867 lbs].” which proves the idea, that all of the manufacturers are constantly aiming at reducing the weight in their new cars.
Yeah, we discovered the Moon, didn’t we? But we say this in a manner, that automotive industry is advancing every year, so we can only dream of the ideas and engineering solutions that will be present in the next decades in this field. We forgot to mention that the car will be available at 19 different locations worldwide when it goes on sale, so if you have the money be sure to look for a location then.
