McLaren MP4-12C pricing announced for United States
It was announced today that the McLaren MP4-12C US manufacturer suggested retail pricing (MSRP) will be starting at $229,000. This will make it the least expensive, carbon-fiber based vehicle in it’s market-price segment.
Additional rumours we encountered for the last couple of months, stated that the price will be well over the aforementioned one, ranging to over $250,000 in some cases. That was proven to be incorrect, with the price set here being lower than those of direct competitors of this car.
This quite amazing supercar will go on sale in the United States in late summer, through 10 dealerships spread around key North American markets. The McLaren MP4-12C will launch as a 2012 vehicle, when it goes on sale.
The McLaren MP4-12C offers a wide range of personalization options, where the pricing has yet to be confirmed on launch. This includes 17 exterior paint finishes, one of which includes the “McLaren Orange” which is a solud hue that was made famous by McLaren racing cars back in the 60′s and 70′s. Also available in the personalization options are 14 different interior trims, which will make almost every car unique to it’s owner.
Performance upgrades for the car powered by the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine with 592hp (441kW / 600PS) which produces 599 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque are also available. These include a sports exhaust system, carbon ceramic brakes, polished-finish calipers and to lightweight forged wheel options. In the stock version, the “standard” McLaren MP4-12C features a one-piece carbon fiber chasis called the MonoCell, but the carbon fiber options also include mirror casings, engine bay panels and engine cover.
Probably the best description of what McLaren MP4-12C has to offer, came from Antony Sheriff, Managing Director at McLaren Automotive Limited:
“The 12C pricing announcement today is another milestone achieved for McLaren. When we embarked on the challenge of creating a new sports car company, we knew that coming to market with a vehicle that was ‘as good’ as the competition was not good enough. It was clear we needed a unique concept that offered clear advantages.
With the 12C’s technologically advanced MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis, highly efficient yet powerful 3.8 liter 592 hp powerplant, a dry weight of less than 2,900 lbs., and every detail down to the switchgear bespoke to McLaren, we have achieved our performance and design objectives. We are extremely proud to be able to offer the 12C at a price that has not been realized by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before.”
