Formula1: Dietrich Mateschitz fully expects Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber to lock horns again in 2011
Looks like the days of team orders and calculating are behind some in Formula 1. Red Bull chief Dietrich Mateschitz fully expects Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber to lock horns again in 2011 and bring their competitiveness to another level. Only few weeks remain until the start of the new season, so after somewhat controversial relationship between Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel last year, this is a positive thing to hear from the team that won last year’s championship.
“Sebastian is fully motivated, and Mark nothing lessThey won’t exchange gifts. Therefore I expect a sim. ilar situation to last year. And they remain both free to race. We do not change our strategy.” said Dietrich Mateschitz in an interview with Autosport.
He also stated that he expects Webber to fully grab the competition level they expect from him, without the expiration of his contract or the possibility of retirement in 2011 making any difference.
“Why should he? He has a body of steel, and he is mentally in perfect shape,” he said. “If he does not continue with us, he will be offered a contract somewhere else. He is a top driver, at the same level as Sebastian. They both are exceptional guys, and this includes characters.”
For those interested the next season of Formula 1 starts in 23 days, with the Gulf Aira Bahrain Grand Prix. The race date is 13th March, when the world’s fastest drivers will head over to Bahrain International Circuit to compete for the title.
There are 57 laps to drive, on a circuit that’s 5.412 km long, which adds up to 308.238 km of the complete race distance. The fastest lap was driven by Michael Schumacher in 2004 with a time of 1:30.252.
