The New BMW M6 And Coupe and Convertible Revealed!
We’ll keep this short! Brand new BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible are out! What’s new? From the styling, motorization, to the small interior details that we simply love. This is a proper heir to the throne of the Grand Tourer that BMW M6 of the previous generation held.
Differences, if not the main different, to us that is, lack of two cylinders in the engine department. Like it’s four-door sibling, the BMW M5, the engine lost them, gained some turbochargers and some nifty technology updates to go with that. That means that the high revving V8 now produces around 10% more power and 30% more torque then the previous model.
This then relates to information that the 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, consisting of Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology, cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Direct Petrol Injection and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control produces 412 kW/560 hp at 6,000 – 7,000RPM. Maximum torque is 680 Newton metres (502 lb-ft) from 1,500RPM while the maximum engine speed you can push this engine to is 7,200RPM.
Performance figures aren’t anything but awesome! Acceleration from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) takes 4.2 seconds for the Coupe and 4.3 seconds for the Convertible. BMW states these two drop the 0–200 km/h (124 mph) mark in 12.6 and 13.1 seconds for the Coupe and Convertible respectively. Normal models (yeah right, call them normal) go to 250 km/h (155 mph) but most of the buyers who are power and speed hungry like we are, will opt for the M Driver’s Package increasing the top speed to 305 km/h (189 mph).
All of this is available through the power delivery thanks to a Seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic, which sends the power to the rear wheels.
Extraordinarily fine balance between performance and fuel consumption represents major improvement on previous models; average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle: 9.9 litres per 100 km / 28.5 mpg imp (BMW M6 Coupe) and 10.3 litres per 100 km / 27.4 mpg imp (BMW M6 Convertible); Auto Start-Stop function and further Efficient Dynamics technology as standard; fuel consumption of the respective predecessor models cut by more than 30 per cent.
We really love the exterior and interior design of the new M6. With sporty lines, large air ducts, it represents the typical M sport feel we are accustomed to from the earlier version. Aerodynamics are again a big part of the car, flared wheel arches, M kidney grills, larger side skirts and wheels, all that we would want from an M6 any day.
We will relay any further information we receive from BMW about the new BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible, as well as the pricing and delivery dates when we get them. Check out the media gallery in the full article, the new color looks insane in our opinion! Nice job BMW. Again!
