McLaren MP4-12C Spider
McLaren is launching the brand new McLaren MP4-12C Spider today through bespoke dealership across the world. What surely is a much anticipated spider version of the highly praised and successful sports car, this is the pinnacle of open top driving right now at this moment.
A second incarnation of the MP4-12C family, the new lightweight vehicle offers a high powered engine delviering staggering 625PS (616bhp), a unique RHT folding roof system that can be operate while on the move with speeds up to 30km/h (19mph), Formula 1 technology DNA promising uncompromising performance available through a 7 Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels.
Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive Managing Director said: “I am really excited to announce that the new 12C Spider is now available to order at new McLaren retailers worldwide. The launch of our second model is an exciting milestone in the growth of our company.
“While the 12C is the technological essence of a race car, the 12C Spider incorporates an additional dimension. 12C Spider owners will love the opportunity to lower the roof and hear the unhindered howl of a V8 twin turbo engine at full throttle. It undoubtedly enhances an already euphoric 12C driving experience.
“The 12C Spider delivers all the thrills characteristic of a high performance roadster, and yet transforms into a raucous track beast at the flick of a switch. I can’t wait to see it on road and track with customers later this year.”
Performance figures are just as impressive as the coupe version. This means 3.1 second times in reaching 0-100km/h (0-62mph), a quarter mile in just 10.8 seconds at speeds of 216km/h (134mph), a top speed of 329km/h (204mph), all being just a tad slower than its hard top counterpart. Yeah! It’s fast as hell!
With a long lasting heritage in motorsport and sports car production, the new Spider is offered with a wide variety of personalisation options. Just a small example the exterior paint finishes are totaled at 17 different color schemes for the new car. McLaren MP4-12C Spider is launched in a Volcano Red color scheme, with Volcano Yellow following closely, where these two will probably be the preferred color finishes for future owners.
The McLaren 12C Spider is now available to order at all of McLaren’s 38 retailers in 22 countries worldwide, with deliveries to first customers planned for November 2012. No pricing information has been released, but it would be stupid to talk prices with so many options available, making this a car that can really be customized to particular owners’ wishes and ideas.
