Carroll Shelby Honored With A 850HP 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra
Friends of Carol Shelby are honoring the great car builder by a one-off 850HP 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra! Even though this is a few days old, we sincerely wanted to share this with you, our readers, as we love everything and anything that great man built!
This group called “Friends of Carol Shelby” consists of various and well know motor companies and people including the likes of Ford, Shelby American and Ford Racing, all a clear cut case this project is made with up most tastefulness and vigor a man like Shelby deserves in his tribute car!
The regular Shelby GT500 is certainly a fast car, but the Friends of Carroll Shelby decided to turn things up a notch nonetheless for this one-off car, which is nicknamed the Shelby GT500 Cobra. Probably in honor of Shelby’s best known cars? Thanks to a Ford Racing 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger, the car’s 5.8-liter V8 engine now drops a stunning 850 horsepower to the rear wheels!
“Even at 89 years of age, Carroll was an inspiration to us all,” says Ford’s group vice president for sales and marketing Jim Farley. “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra. The one-off car we have created represents the very idea he had about making the 2013 Shelby GT500 into a true Cobra.”
The 850HP 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra was revealed earlier at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion where Cobra is the marque of show for 2012. During the reveal of the car in California, Ford announced that it will renamr a road at its Product Development Center in Dearborn, Michigan to “Carroll Shelby Way”, further honoring the great man!
