Nurburgring AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix By Erhardt Szakacs
Erhardt Szakacs has visited the Nurburgring AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix just recently and he has decided to share his view on the event caught by the lens of his camera. Packed with more than 500 race cars, the 40th edition of the event attracted spectators and racing drivers both old and young.
What can certainly be called a true festival of motorsport, this is an event packed with spectators, an event that brings the true colors of motorsport to the public. Automotive talk, petrolheads converging on the sacred grounds to any motorsport fan, a place where both amateurs and professionals have a talk about their favorite past time; cars and racing! Valuable classics from the ’70s and ’80s were there, celebrated racing drivers from the period as well!
Legends like the two-time world rally champion Walter Röhrl who was also one of the participants! The visitors also included Hans-Joachim Stuck, president of the DMSB (German Motor Sport Federation): “The AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix is for me one of the top classic car events in Europe,” said the former racing star. “I have seen this weekend, many vehicles with which I myself have driven or with whom I have fought in the race. Many happy memories have risen from it.”
With the talk of the day being the big anniversary of the event, the 40th installment of the Oldtimer Grand Prix, the event has come a long way from a small enthusiastic classic car owners meet to the big event it is today. The growth has been stunning and every time there are more classic car owners participating.
Hubertus Graf von Dönhof was the guy who invited the first 16 to 20 participants from which it all started. He is considered by many the founder of the event. Today, the AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix is certainly one of the most importanr historical racing events on the continent. Perfect examples from priceless machines are seen participating, cars worth more than almost any exotic in production today, all driven by people we all admired as kids back in the day.
We are thankful to Erhardt Szakacs from ES-Photoarts for getting us the images, we really appreciate! Classic cars, exhaust fumes and rumbling noise from the old and still mighty racing cars. We cannot picture a more perfect weekend for a racing car anywhere in the world. Enjoy! And we do apologize for somewhat dodgy translation!
