Hi fans! Audi RS5 Convertible is out. Finally! Audi has been so nice to send us a full five page press release, but we’ll stick to what’s important to us here. As we all know and been waiting for, the high-performance Audi RS5 Convertible is here and it offers us many nice little bits and pieces that will make it sell well.
Let’s start! First of all, the engine. Powered by a 4.2FIS engine with 331kW (450hp), this convertible is taken from 0-100km/H (0-62mph) in 4.9 seconds. Even though most of us expected times that would be somewhere in the high threes or low fours, this is what we got. Nevertheless anything below 5 seconds will surely get your hairs up!
The 4.2 FSI V8 is hooked up to a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission powering Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, which under normal driving conditions distributes the torque between the front and rear axles at a 40:60 ratio. If necessary however, it can direct up to 70 percent to the front or a maximum of 85 percent to the rear, making it a car that can handle aggressive driving in almost any condition.
The now famous Audi single-piece front grille is here, sporting a honeycomb grille insert with the RS5 logo on it, making mistakes about what this car truly is nearly impossible. Wedge-shaped headlights, with wave like lower edges illuminate with xenon plus lamps and popular LED strips that form the daytime running lights, making the visual appearance on the front just plain awesome!
Actually the whole outer appearance of the Audi RS5 looks incredible. We’ve always been fans of the lines this model has, but this is simply gorgeous. The RS5 receives 19 or 20 inch forged wheels housed in those enlarged wheel wells, as well as bespoke bumpers, side skirts, a boot lid spoiler and a rear diffuser incorporating two large oval exhaust pipes that take care of the sweet engine music.
Interior is Audish if there ever was one! That means everything is styled accordingly, RS5 badges everywhere, user satisfaction should be high and quality materials were once again used to make it a comfortable work space for the driver. Parking system plus, driver and front passenger seat heating, automatic belt feeder, wind deflector, lighting package, driver information system with rest recommendation are some of it.
There is a comprehensive package of safety equipment. For example in a case of impending roll-over accident, strong aluminum plates deploy upwards behind the rear head restraints. All assistance seen in the A5 model lineup are available in the RS5 as well. Adaptive cruise control and Audi active lane assist to name a few. All things considered, we are really impressed how everything is clean, elegant and good looking!
Deliveries of the Audi RS5 Convertible being in early 2013 in Germany. Base price in their home market (that’s Germany) will be 88,500 euros. We haven’t got the North American pricing or delivery dates, but we’ll try to get that later today. Full media (which will be updated as Audi releases images and videos) is available right below. Full press release with all the goodies from Audi can be reached under the images.
