New Porsche Cayenne S Diesel Information, Media And Pricing
Porsche is launching their most powerful diesel engine on the market with the new Porsche Cayenne Diesel S. Combining lots of power and excellent consumption, this will undoubtedly be a very popular choice for Cayenne customers.
It is powered by a 4.2-litre eight-cylinder engine with biturbo charging and it produces 382 hp (281 kW) and offers a maximum torque of 850 Newton metres. This is good enough for a sprint from zero to 100 km in 5.7 seconds, and its top speed is 252 km/h. If you thought these numbers mean high consumption rates, you are terribly wrong!
Consumption rate for this diesel model Cayenne is just 8.3 litres per 100 km (CO2: 218 g/km) with NEDC fuel figures. Quite impressive numbers for a V8 diesel engine developing that amount of horsepower and performance. Mind you, the 5.7sec times are bragged about by some sports cars and this is a family SUV nontheless.
One part of the Cayenne Diesel S is very interesting (to us at least) and that’s the PTM active all-wheel drive. “This system produces the driving qualities of a rear-wheel drive vehicle – together with all of its benefits in handling and precision. In a sporty, dynamic style of driving, front-wheel drive actions precisely adapted to the driving situation intervene to improve stability and traction. The optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) makes this excellent dynamic performance even sportier.” according to Porsche.
Porsche clearly states its power in towing applications, where the Cayenne Diesel S has more than enough power in reserve to tow at its maximum capacity of 3.6 metric tonnes. It can also reach 1,200km in distance when equipped with an optional 100 litre fuel tank. That’s around 745 miles done in a big luxury SUV like this on a single tank! Impressive to say the least!
The Cayenne S Diesel will launch on the market in January 2013 and will cost 77,684 euros in Germany – including 19 per cent VAT and country-specific features. This will be very popular in Europe, but I’m sure North American and Asian customers will learn to appreciate it’s qualities as well.
